These updates are NOT on the CDROMs of the corresponding products, as the CDROMs are pressed in large quantities when a release is announced. Once you purchase Accelerated-X, it is recommended that you visit our ftp site to determine which update(s) you will need (if any). Once on our ftp site (ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/updates/accelx), select the subdirectory corresponding to the product and version you purchased, and download and consult the INDEX file to determine which update(s) you may require. Updates currently in the AX demos are D4102.001 through D4102.016. Updates currently in the LX demos are L4102.001 through L4102.009. NEW: The updates listed below are not yet in the corresponding demos but may be downloaded from the ftp site and applied to the appropriate demo (and product). Update D4102.017 for the AX demos/products adds support for the Real3D Starfighter AGP (Intel i740 graphics chip). Update D4102.018 for the AX demos/products adds support for the Matrox G100 4MB SGRAM board. Update L4102.010 for the LX demos/products adds support for the NeoMagic MagicMedia256AV (alternately referred to as the NM2200, NM2360, or NMG-5). It is intended as a compatibility demo only. If you are able to successfully configure your graphics hardware using Xsetup, the setup utility included with the demo, and then start the demo (/usr/X11R6/bin/Xaccel for FreeBSD and Linux, /usr/openwin/bin/Xaccel for Solaris), the product will work on your hardware. Once you have confirmed that Accelerated-X will support your graphics hardware, you can exit the demo at any time by pressing CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE. Alternately, after 10 minutes, the demo will exit automatically. What versions of the demo are available? ======================================== There are six files in this directory that contain the demos of Acclerated-X for FreeBSD, Linux and Solaris. These demo versions will expire Dec 1, 1998 AX412.FreeBSD.tar.gz - AX (Desktop Accelerated-X) for FreeBSD 2.2.x LX412.FreeBSD.tar.gz - LX (Laptop Accelerated-X) for FreeBSD 2.2.x AX412.Linux.tar.gz - AX (Desktop Accelerated-X) for Linux v2.0.26 and higher. LX412.Linux.tar.gz - LX (Laptop Accelerated-X) for Linux v2.0.26 and higher. AX412.Solaris.tar.Z - AX (Desktop Accelerated-X) for Solaris 2.5.1 or 2.6 LX412.Solaris.tar.Z - LX (Laptop Accelerated-X) for Solaris 2.5.1 or 2.6 The AX (Desktop Accelerated-X) demo is intended for customers using a desktop computer with FreeBSD, Linux, or Solaris that are interested in stable, supported, high-performance graphics. It supports a wide range of chipsets and graphics cards. The list is constantly expanding. Recent new additions include SiS 6326, Rendition Verite, and Intel i740. The LX (Laptop Accelerated-X) demo is intended for customers using a laptop/notebook computer with FreeBSD, Linux, or Solaris that are interested in stable, supported, high-performance graphics. It supports a wide range notebooks and graphics chipsets. The list is constantly expanding. Recent additions include ATI Rage LT Pro, S3 ViRGE MX/MX+, and Trident Cyber 9388. Can I apply updates to the demo? ================================ Yes, updates from ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/updates/accelx/desktop/4.1.2 can be applied to AX versions of the demo, and updates from ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/updates/accelx/laptop/4.1.2 can be applied to LX versions of the demo. Currently, the AX versions of the demo include all updates through D4102.016 and LX versions of the demo include all updates through L4102.009. Do I need a serial number for the demo? ======================================= A serial number is required for installation of this demo. For AX, use DEMOAX-0693183650-66 For LX, use DEMOLX-0713639060-71 How do I install the demo? ========================== Installation and configuration for Linux and FreeBSD: ----------------------------------------------------- Download the file, and uncompress it: (you must be root to run these commands) unix-prompt> gzip -d AX412.linux.tar.gz unix-prompt> tar xvf AX412.linux.tar unix-prompt> sh Install Running Install will start a text mode installation utility; once this has completed, the text mode version of the X server setup utility (Xsetup) will start. Enter your name, organization, and serial number when prompted. After you have entered the serial number, and it has been accepted, press the Escape key (Esc) to continue with configuration. /usr/X11R6/bin/Xsetup and /usr/X11R6/bin/Xaccel are the the configuration utility and X Server, respectively. To remove the demo, run the Uninstall program located in the demo directory. Email demo@xig.com with any comments or questions. Installation and configuration for Solaris: ------------------------------------------- Note: If you have an older version of Accelerated-X already installed, the Solaris pkgadd tool will not let you install this until removing it. Make sure you still have the original media to reinstall the older version after evaluating the demo. Download the file, and uncompress it: (you must be root to run these commands) unix-prompt> uncompress LX412.Solaris.tar.Z unix-prompt> tar -xvf LX412.Solaris.tar unix-prompt> pkgadd -d . The Solaris Package Manager will then prompt you to install the Accelerated-X 4.1.2 LX Demo X Server. Select the package number and install it. You will be prompted to install files that are setuid 0, The X Server requires these permissions in order to run normally. After pkgadd has finished installing the X Server, run /usr/openwin/bin/Xsetup. You then enter your name, organization and the serial number when prompted. After you have entered the serial number, and it has been accepted, press the Escape key (Esc) to continue with configuration. /usr/openwin/bin/Xsetup and /usr/openwin/bin/Xaccel are the configuration utility and X Server, respectively. To remove the demo, simply run 'pkgrm accelx'.
